Looking a bit knackered, the actress cut a lonely figure on what should have been a day for celebration.

Instead of moonlight and candles, Katie had only a stripy scarf and brown tote to keep her company, as she wrapped up her daily performance in Broadway's All My Sons.

It's not clear whether Tom followed the cliched gaffe of actually forgetting his own anniversary - or whether he simply had something planned back home in the privacy of their New York apartment.

Either way, his no-show in public is a surprise for a couple who usually can't resist flaunting their mutual love in an often cringeworthy manner at every given opportunity.

This is, after all, a duo who fulfilled their fairy-tale romance by getting married in lavish style in an Italian castle two years back...

And who could forget the whole vom-inducing episode of Tom declaring his love for Kat by jumping on Oprah Winfrey's sofa?

Is this really the same lustful gent who was unable to be seen meeting his missus after work on their anniversary?

Tom recently said he and Katie had "proved the critics wrong" by being married two years.

But Tom, we want more romance, more shows, more reasons to feel a bit nauseous when we see you with your wife in public.

Really, is that too much to ask?
